Suunto has introduced a limited edition of the Suunto 9 Baro Titanium Red Bull X-Alps watch to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the world’s most difficult adventure race.
For those who aren’t aware, this is a competition in the sport of paragliding that takes place every year across Europe. Participants must either walk or fly the route that spans more than 1,000 kilometers and goes through Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and France. On June 20, 2021, the event that has been running for ten years will get underway in Salzburg, Austria. Only 33 of the strongest teams from 17 different countries (consisting of one athlete and one official supporter) have been chosen to compete. The vast majority of these won’t even make it to the starting line, let alone cross the finish line. We have not yet witnessed a team from a country other than Switzerland win the race.
The first iteration of the Suunto 9 was shown off back in 2018. After this, an iteration made of titanium was released early this year. The improved aesthetic quality may be seen beginning with this second product generation.
The Suunto 9 Baro Titanium Red Bull X-Alps Limited Edition is only available in a limited quantity of 1,238 pieces. Why are there so many? This is because the 10th edition of the race will take place across a distance of 1,238 kilometers over the mountains. Therefore, one for every kilometer that was run throughout the race.
You will still receive the titanium bezel, but it will now be etched on both sides with the words “Red Bull X-Alps Limited Edition,” and the wording will be filled in with red ink around the edges. Each watch has a unique number that corresponds to a kilometer along the course of the race.
The quick-release strap has also been updated to reflect the redesign. It is available in two different lengths and bears the logos of both Suunto and the Red Bull X-Alps. In addition, there is a silicone strap that has two different colors included in the package.
The actual specifications of the device are the same as they were in the first version. Amazing runtime on the battery is a definite selling point. The Suunto 9 has a battery life of 170 hours on a single charge, which is more than enough time for any athlete competing in the Red Bull X-Alps. Additionally, it can hold up against the majority of different environments. In order to accomplish this, it features sapphire glass and water resistance of one hundred meters.
Red Bull X-Alps SuuntoPlus is integrated into the one-of-a-kind timepiece that is part of a limited edition run. This is intended to assist users in monitoring their ascent rate more accurately. The communities of those who enjoy trekking and flying should find it handy.
Other aspects of the navigation system include the development and navigation of points of interest and turn-by-turn navigation provided by komoot. The latter was made available for the standard editions of the Suunto 9 and 7 in the month of March as part of a software upgrade.
On the company’s official website, consumers can now purchase the Suunto 9 Red Bull X-Alps version. If you want to buy one of the 1,238 that are now on the market, it will cost you close to $700 to do so.
The Suunto 9 Peak will be a different generation of the Suunto 9 line of watches. A recent filing with the FCC has provided details on the watch, which is anticipated to have an improvement to an extremely thin design. There is, as of yet, no information on an exact release date.
