Polar has expanded its sports watch collection with the addition of a new model. The Polar Unite is a lifestyle fitness watch that incorporates some of the company's best features into a budget-friendly compact.

Unite is similar to Polar Ignite in many aspects. The lack of built-in GPS is the most significant omission on the list. However, there are a few more distinctions to be aware of. They're right here.

Ignite vs. Polar Unite: Specifications

These two watches have a lot in common in terms of design. When you put them side by side, it can be difficult to tell which is whose. The distinctions are minor.

While they both have a 43mm diameter, Unite is somewhat thicker (10.4mm vs 8.5mm). A glass fiber reinforced polymer case with a stainless steel button on the side makes up the construction. The bezel is perhaps the easiest way to tell the two apart. Ignite has a steel design, while Unite has a polymer design.

A 1.2mm color touch display (IPS TFT) with an ambient light sensor (ALS) and a resolution of 240 204 pixels is included in the devices. The glass lens is somewhat different, but it isn't noticeable. In training mode, Ignite also has an always-on option.

Unite, a new lifestyle fitness watch from Polar, was unveiled today.

Unite is the lighter of the two in terms of weight. It weighs 32 grams without the strap, compared to 35 grams for the competitor. All of this can withstand water up to a depth of 30 meters.

The Polar Ignite is a multi-purpose fitness device with advanced stats.

Under the hood, there are some significant variations.

As previously said, the key difference is that Ignite has built-in GPS, whereas Unite requires you to rely on Connected GPS. For some, this won't make a difference, but for runners and bikers, it will. Those that use Ignite don't need to bring their phones with them when exercising outside. Owners of units must do so if they want precise statistics. Both watches have a heart rate monitor and an accelerometer, among other features.

When it comes to battery life, Ignite (GPS and wrist-based heart rate) can last up to 7 hours in training mode and up to 5 days in watch mode with continuous heart rate tracking. In training mode (with connected GPS and wrist-based heart rate), Unite can last up to 50 hours, and in watch mode with continuous heart rate tracking, it can last up to 4 days.

Polar Unite Functionality vs. Ignite

When it comes to activity tracking, these are both lifestyle fitness watches that will keep you covered around the clock. There is no difference between them in terms of the fundamentals.

Nightly Recharge recovery measurement, continuous heart rate, detailed sleep tracking, 24/7 activity tracking, activity goal, FitSpark daily training guide, active time, steps and distance, activity summary, activity benefit, Serene breathing exercise, and inactivity alerts are all features available on the watches. They also keep track of hundreds of other sports and provide statistics to go along with them.

The Unite is missing out on some functions because of its absence of built-in GPS.

Training Load Pro is one of them. This is essentially a comparison of your 28-day average cardio load to your 7-day average cardio load. It basically tells you how to train and whether you're detraining and should do more or if you're overdoing it. Polar evaluates each workout and assigns a score between 1 and 5, with 5 being the most difficult.

Other aspects of Unite that are lacking are similarly related to running. They contain wrist cadence data, running index, and altitude data, as well as climb and descent. On Ignite, you may obtain speed and pace information and zones, as well as distance information, from the watch, but only on Unite from the smartphone app.

Swimming metrics are the final significant distinction worth highlighting. They're available on Ignite, but not on Unite. It's odd because both watches have the same water resistance and are therefore good for swimming.

Which fitness watch should you buy: the Polar Unite or the Polar Ignite?

There isn't much to write home about in terms of non-fitness functions. The watches keep you linked while you're out and about. However, there is no NFC, audio storage, or any other fancy features.

Polar Unite vs. Ignite:

The main line is that Polar is ramping up its game with a variety of fantastic devices. Ignite and Unite are very similar creatures, with Unite being more of a lifestyle and fitness watch than a sports watch.

The key difference between the two is that the latter has built-in GPS as well as data like Running Index, Cadence, and Training Load Pro. This indicates that Ignite is aimed squarely at the running crowd. It also has the advantage of allowing you to track your swimming.

What's the difference between a Garmin Vivosport and a Vivosmart 3?

Unite combines the best aspects of Polar's other products (such as the fantastic recovery metrics) into a cost-effective bundle. If you're happy with Connected GPS, it appears to be a fascinating choice. If you're a serious runner, though, we recommend going the additional mile and choosing Ignite.
