Red Magic, a Nubia brand, unveils its first smartwatch

Nubia’s first first smartwatch, the Red Magic, was released in China today. The Red Magic Watch is its name.

The company has a long history in the wearable tech industry. It ran a Kickstarter campaign for the Nubia Watch last year. That watch is unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

The display is a large 4.01-inch super flexible AMOLED. You’ll also receive an eSIM and a variety of fitness tracking accessories.

Many Kickstarter backers have now gotten the item, and their reactions have ranged from positive to unfavourable. The product appears to be suffering from low support and development at the moment.

Now we’re having an entirely different experience. It was launched under the Nubia Red Magic brand, which is the company’s gaming smartphone division.

The new timepiece has been disclosed a lot thanks to a recent FCC filing. Everything is now official as of this morning.

Unlike the Nubia Watch, the Red Magic Watch resembles a traditional sports watch. The device, which weighs 30 grammes, features a circular face, two physical buttons on the right (for power and quick access), and a robust body. It looks a lot like the Garmin Forerunner and Fenix series.

The touchscreen display is 1.39 inches in size. It has a 454 x 454 pixel resolution, which is quite good. The screen is housed within a polymer body, which is held together by 13mm broad straps. These are detachable since they are held in place by ordinary pins.

The 5 ATM-rated device is equipped with conventional fitness technology (geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer), as well as SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation). There’s also support for GPS/GLONASS/QZSS and Bluetooth 5.0 BLE. All of this is made possible by a GigaDevice chip and a 420mAh battery that lasts slightly over two weeks.

The watch will be available in China starting March 11th. A sport version is available for CNY 599 (about $90). A silicone strap is included. The original version costs CNY 699 (about $110) and comes with a leather strap. Both are available in a variety of colours.
