Review of the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker | Buyers Guide for 2022

The Pet Tracker market has become very saturated in recent years, and we now have tons of trackers that we can get for our pets. Some trackers only focus on activity, while others focus on location.

However, few trackers offer both functions, and the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is one of them. The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker has been around for a long time, and I’ve heard some good things about it, so I decided to give it a try.

This complete guide will share everything you need to know about the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker. Let us begin.

Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker Review: 2022

Pricing and Packages

When it comes to activity trackers, there are only one-time costs. However, location trackers require a data connection that costs a monthly or yearly subscription.

The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is also a location and activity tracker and is no exception. It also requires a subscription, and Tractive offers both types of packages.

Basic Package

The basic package offers GPS tracking with an interval of 2 to 60 minutes and unlimited live tracking with an interval of 23 seconds, and that’s it. The basic package comes with no fancy features and is as essential as possible.

If you get the basic package for a month, it will cost you $8.99. However, if you opt for an annual membership, you can get a reasonable fee.

The yearly subscription will cost you $77.90 per year ($6.49 per month), and the 2-year subscription will cost you $129.39 per year ($5.39) per month.

Premium Package

You should get the premium package if you want great control and features. The premium package unlocks all features and gets access to premium features.

It comes with the following features.

  •  Unlimited live tracking with 23-second intervals
  •  Public and family sharing
  •  Worldwide coverage for up to 80 countries
  •  Unlimited location history

The premium package starts at $83.90 per year ($6.99 per month). If you get the premium package for two years, it will cost you $139 (5.79 per month). If you get it for five years, it will only cost you $4.99 per month, and the total cost is $299 for five years.

Tractive has partnered with ATandT and TMobile in the US and will offer GPS-based tracking. The company also offers a 14-day refund of the tracker if you have poor service from ATandT and TMobile in your area.

Unpacking

The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker includes the following items.

  •  Equipment manual
  •  Two plastic clips for attaching the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker to the collar
  •  A USB charging cable with a clamp
  •  A multi-country charging station
  •  Design and build quality

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker was its durability. It didn’t feel very durable in pictures, and I had my reservations.

When I bought the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker, the first thing I looked at was durability. The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is made of glossy plastic that may look sturdy, but good enough.

Unless someone wants to break it, I think it will last long. The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker comes with plastic clips, which are not very strong, and I don’t think they will last very long. Instead of using plastic clips, the company should have used metal clips to make them more durable.

The design of the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is not very attractive. It’s fair to say that the design wasn’t the company’s primary concern. After all, it’s just a tracker. The tracker’s dimensions are 1.61 × 2.01 × 0.59 inches, and it weighs about 1.23 ounces. It’s not very big, and it gets in the way of the collar.

On the back of the tracker, you will get the QR code that you can scan to activate the tracker. The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is also waterproof and has an IPX7 water rating, which is a big plus.

It can stay up to 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes, which is incredible. Overall I’m happy with the design of the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker, and it’s well made too.

Web Portal & Apps Performance

With Tractive, you can track your pet via a web portal or app. The company offers the Tractive GPS app for Android and IOS. You can also track your pet through the web portal.

Let’s start with the web portal. To start using the web portal, you need to create your account and fill in all the information related to your pet, such as B. the breed and other general information.

Once you set up the profile, you can start tracking your pet. The web portal is easy to use. You will get the fence option, history, and live option on the web portal. The fence option lets you know your pet’s location and safe area.

Once your pet leaves the safe area, you can start tracking your pet’s life. In the history section, you can find your pet’s location history.

You can set up the account very quickly when it comes to the app. The app will ask you various questions about your race, and It will save the information in the app. The app also has the AR tracking feature, which you can only find in the mobile app and is not available in the web portal.

Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker Performance

This section will share my thoughts on the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker and discuss the various features I have tried during my time with it.

Let’s start with the Safe Zone feature. The best thing about the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is that it comes with circles and squares for safe zones that you can choose as you like.

It is a great feature, especially when many pet trackers only offer circular security zones. However, pet trackers offer more personalized geofencing, but still, something is better than nothing.

I set up the rectangular sage zone for my pet and found that it doesn’t give complete control over the size of the safe zone. The minimum radius is 164 feet, which can be significant, especially if you have a small yard or live in a busy area.

The app alerts when your pet leaves the safe zone, but text notifications are not available. Once my pet left the area, the app sent a push notification after 2 minutes, making a big difference.

I tried again, and I had almost the same duration the second time. However, the lag was not constant, and the best response time was 11 seconds.

After receiving the perimeter violation notification, I could track my pet with the live tracking feature that updates every second.

However, the biggest problem with live tracking is that it consumes a lot of battery power, and the feature turns off automatically after 15 minutes to save battery power.

According to the company, the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker offers 8 hours of battery life if you keep the live tracking feature on all the time. It lasts about five days with everyday use, which is not bad.

The accuracy of GPS technology is debatable. GPS signals can be affected by weather magnetic fields from electrical transformers, walls, or trees. So be sure to consider the area you live in when purchasing the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker.

If you opt for the premium package, you will get the location history option that will let you know the exact location of your pet during the day. The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker also has a reasonably accurate activity tracking system.

The tracker records all your pet’s activities and displays this information on the app. The app classifies activity levels into three main sections: Calm, Active, and Playful. It also provides the activity summary and the daily activity in graph form.

The tracker also records your pet’s sleep and provides comprehensive sleep analysis. It also displays sleep patterns to learn valuable metrics like deep sleep, light sleep, etc. It is how you know if your pet is sleeping well or not.

You can also set activity goals in the app and compare them to the activity of your friends’ pets. Overall, I’m happy with the activity tracking accuracy, and it provides handy information.

You can download the animal activity reports from the portal and export them in GPX or KML file format. Both formats are XML formats, and you can use them in Google Earth and other programs.

Overall my experience with the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker was good. What I liked the most was that it was pretty easy to use. It comes with good battery life, and tracking is decent too.

However, it can be affected by inclement weather and other variable factors, but I also acknowledge that it’s a problem with the GPS technology itself.

I didn’t like the Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker because it doesn’t have WiFi and Bluetooth location services. I also noticed a lag in response time to notifications, which can be a deal-breaker for some people. Also, plastic collar clips are not very strong.

Conclusion

The Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker is undoubtedly an excellent tracker, but like other trackers, it has its limitations.

My experience with Tractive GPS 3G Pet Tracker was good, and you can use it too if it suits your needs.
