t is likely that on some occasions, when changing your mobile or portability to a new company, you have temporarily lost your Internet connection through the data network . Although this problem can be caused by a multitude of reasons, most likely, the name of your operator’s access point or APN is not correctly configured .
Although it is no longer as common as before to suffer problems of this type - basically, because the configuration is usually carried out automatically -, it may be that at some point you need to perform the configuration again from scratch. In this guide, we explain how to do it step by step , regardless of your phone company.
First of all: what is the APN and what is it for?
To start configuring the APN of our device, it is first necessary to understand what this concept refers to, and why it is essential to be able to navigate through the mobile data network.
When our device is first configured to work with the telephone operator’s network, a process called APN resolution is carried out . Through this process, the DNS server grants the terminal an IP address, which it will use to be able to access Internet services through the mobile data network.
But in order to obtain an IP, the device requires an access point name –APN– corresponding to that of the operator offering the connection. When APN resolution is performed and the operator determines that the access point name is correct, the IP, security methods, and other parameters necessary to establish the connection and provide network access are assigned .
How to configure the APN of your mobile
In Android, the process to configure the APN is simple. Although the steps may be somewhat different depending on the mobile model being used, the procedure is generally similar in all of them:
Open the system settings and go to the section “Wi-Fi and Internet” .
Access the “SIM and Network” section .
If your mobile has multiple SIMs, select the one in which you want to configure the APN. If not, skip to the next step.
Tap on “Access Point Names” .
To create a new APN, tap on the “+” button at the top. You can also edit one of the existing ones.
On the APN creation / edition screen, you will need to enter some data to carry out the configuration correctly. Depending on your operator, whether it is one of the main ones, or one of the many OMVs , it will be necessary to enter some values or others, but generally these are the sections to which you should pay more attention:
Name : name of the access point to which the device will connect to access the network.
APN : type of access point, provided by the operator.
MCC : “Mobile Country Code”. Corresponds to the country code by which the telephone operator is identified.
MNC : “Mobile Network Code”. Numeric code that complements the MCC. Each operator has its own MNC.
Having seen the steps to configure an APN, and the aspects that must be taken into account before being able to do so, we now turn to see the values that must be assigned to the APN depending on the telephone company - those values that do not appear do not need to be modified–. Through the index under these lines you can go directly to the values corresponding to your operator.

Although it may be a process that can be overlooked, it is essential to have the APN well configured on our mobile phone in order to enjoy a good Internet connection through the mobile data network. Fortunately, the steps to follow are simple, and in most cases the configuration will be carried out automatically. If not, simply enter the data reflected in the tables on these lines.
