Huami's Timex-branded smartwatch earns FCC approval, the company announced

A Huami smartwatch bearing the Timex trademark has been granted certification by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A little over a year ago, the two businesses decided to form a strategic collaboration with one another.

The certification was made public on the day before yesterday. From this, we can deduce that there will be two variants of the Timex smartwatch available, which will be given the model numbers M04F and M04J, respectively.

It can be extrapolated from the released information that the watch will have a water resistance of 5 ATM, but that is pretty much all that can be determined. Aside from the fact that the overall form of the two iterations appears to be the same, It is likely that the difference will be in the internal specifications or the quality of the build material.

It makes perfect sense for Huami and Timex to work together on this project. Although the company, which is based in China, has only been around since 2013, it has quickly become one of the most well-known brands in the wearables sector. It is the company that is responsible for a number of well-known smartwatches and fitness trackers that are sold under the Amazfit brand. Additionally, it is a partner of Xiaomi for the production of wearable items such as the Mi Band, which has been quite successful.

On the other hand, Timex has a history in the watchmaking industry that can be traced all the way back to the year 1854. However, it does not have the necessary experience or presence in the field of wearable technology. There are an increasing number of conventional watchmakers who are becoming aware of the significance of this industry, and Timex appears to be finally moving in this direction.

Wang Huang, Chairman and CEO of Huami Corporation, was quoted as saying when the collaboration was announced in December 2018 that “We are excited about the opportunities this agreement provides, particularly the ability to leverage Timex’s developed channels to gain deeper access to the United States and other mature markets.”

“Together, we will collaborate on the development of business models to promote, market, and distribute smart watches to our combined customer base.” We anticipate that we will be able to leverage the distribution strengths of each company across the global market while also benefiting from established online and offline channels. This is a significant strategic relationship that will further enable us to supply products and cloud-based services to our users all over the world.

Together, they are combining Huami’s expertise in app design, AI technology, cloud platform, and manufacturing capabilities with Timex’s globally recognized brand, customer base, marketing, and distribution channels. The goal is to create a new, innovative product that will revolutionize the watch industry. The companies are working on a range of smartwatches for the next generation, which will be available for sale in both established and growing regions.

It’s possible that we’re witnessing the first result of this partnership right now. On the FCC website, actual external photographs of the device will not be available until the month of July. This almost certainly indicates that the publication date will be somewhere around the summer.
