Since the lockdown, Sentio's wearable has shown an increase in unpleasant feelings

COVID-19’s impact on our mental health has been quantified by Sentio Solutions, a wearables firm based in San Francisco. Our negative feelings significantly increased during the lockdown, according to the first study of its sort.

The study makes use of information gathered by the company’s Feel Emotion Sensor. This is a wearable that tracks emotions and was released a few years ago. The wristband is designed to track biosignals throughout the day, with the results shown and individualized advice to improve emotional wellness provided through the mobile application.

The device has a similar appearance to a regular fitness tracker. Sensors on the inside enable it to monitor heart rate variability, galvanic skin reaction, skin temperature, and movement (activity). Some sophisticated algorithms use the technology to figure out how the person feels during the day and how certain factors affect their mood.

A total of 36 people from Europe and the United States were chosen at random for the study. Over the course of eight weeks, 128 million electrodermal activity (EDA) samples, 400 million heart rate variability (HRV) samples, 64 million skin temperature (ST) samples, and 900 major emotional occasions were analyzed.

Since social distancing measures were implemented, the data demonstrate a significant decrease in a number of bio-signals. This shows that people’s emotional states have shifted significantly. During the lockdown, the quantity of negative feelings virtually doubled. Feelings of vulnerability, emptiness, anxiety, and misery were common. When compared to the pre-lockdown period, the intensity of over 60% of negative feelings rose.

Although we suspected this, this is the first time physiological data has been utilized to assess the pandemic’s impact on our emotional states. The complete study can be found at this website if you’re interested.

Sentio Solutions offers a solution that combines their sensor with 24/7 CBT assistance. There’s also a new Relief Program to help individuals cope with the COVID-19 pandemic’s high stress levels.

“The Feel Emotion Sensor was developed after years of study; it employs proprietary algorithms and artificial intelligence to evaluate physiological data to detect emotional space, and it is connected to a companion app and a data-driven CBT therapy programme,” stated Haris Tsirmpas, CTO and Co-Founder.

“We are merely touching the surface of our technology’s possibilities,” he continues, “and it will fundamentally alter mental health treatment in the future.”
