The relationship between Gold's Gym and Garmin gives fitness wearables a boost during workouts.

Garmin’s already extensive lineup of wearable devices is getting an upgrade that’s focused on fitness. This week, the sports technology business made the announcement of a partnership with Gold’s Gym, which is widely regarded as one of the most successful fitness chains in the world. As a result of the agreement, the Gold AMP personal fitness app and the most recent generation of activity trackers and smartwatches produced by Garmin will be compatible with one another.

The Gold AMP is a well-liked mobile application for physical activity that was launched in 2017. This software, which serves essentially as a private digital trainer, motivates you to go out harder by combining music playlists with voice coaching while you are working out. There are hundreds of different workouts to select from, each of which can be customised to accommodate any degree of difficulty.

Having someone guide you through activities like elliptical training, treadmill jogging, stair climbing, rowing, mindfulness, bodyweight training, and other activities may be incredibly encouraging. Both of these things, as well as the music playlists, assist to break up the monotony of the workout. Over forty different types of music are included in the app’s hundreds of DJ mixes. Because there is a sufficient amount of variation, you won’t find yourself listening to the same songs over consecutive workouts.

The app is offered for a monthly fee of USD 9.99 and CAD and is free for Gold Gym members in both countries. There is an Android version as well as one for the App Store.

The relationship between Garmin and Gold’s Gym provides a boost to the performance of Garmin’s fitness devices.

The most recent fitness gadgets from Garmin are now compatible with the corresponding app. As a result of the connection, users of watches such as the Vivosmart 3, Vivosport, Vivomove HR, Vivoactive 3, Forerunner 645, Forerunner 645 Music, and Fenix 5 will now have the ability to monitor their heart rate in real-time by using the Gold AMP app. It is not totally obvious why the Forerunner 935 or the newly announced Fenix 5 plus smartwatches are not on this list. Neither of these watches has been published yet. It’s possible that they will be incorporated at a later time.

It is essential when you are working out, that you keep track of your heart rate. The majority of people who work out will tell you that their primary goal is to either reduce body fat or improve their fitness level. But very few people are aware of their current heart rate, let alone where it should be. Because of this, training in a heart-rate zone is beneficial. To attain your full potential in the shortest period of time and with the least amount of effort possible, you need to be aware of how hard your heart is working.

Garmin’s Vice President of Global Consumer Sales, Dan Bartel, remarked that “we know through our many years of expertise in the fitness wearables industry that the value of heart rate tracking during exercise simply cannot be emphasised,” and that this was based on Garmin’s own experience.

“We are pleased to merge our two areas of competence through this cooperation with Gold’s Gym in order to create a personal digital training experience that is unparalleled in the industry.”

The initial stage in the cooperation is just being able to monitor your heart rate in real-time through the app. Users will soon be able to track and analyse their exercises in both Gold’s AMP and Garmin Connect thanks to an upgrade that is scheduled to go out this autumn. There will be a connection made available between the two through a Garmin Connect IQ version of the Gold AMP app.

There have been other companies that have done this before Garmin. Apple unveiled the GymKit late in the calendar year 2017. Users of the Apple Watch are now able to sync their devices with cardio machines such as ellipticals, treadmills, stationary cycles, and stair steppers with the simple click of a button. In an effort to make this capability more accessible to a wider audience, the Cupertino-based company has recently formed partnerships with a number of other companies, including LifeFitness, Matrix, and TechnoGym.
